About the Virginia Equine Artists Association

Four Virginia artists – Wilma Bradner, of Richmond, Elaine Hurst, of Port Republic, Debby Thomas, of Moseley, and Kristin Waters Wise, of Greenville – founded the Virginia Equine Artists Association (VEAA) in February 2005 in order to promote and market Virginia equine art and to provide educational opportunities for Virginia equine artists and photographers.

“One-Person Artshow Opportunity!”

Exhibit your artwork at a wonderful facility in Lexington, VA, on the Virginia Horse Center grounds, at the brand new, Hoofbeats Therapeutic Riding Center's building. Indoors, secure, lovely place to hang artwork. The building hosts a wide variety of people who will see your work. Possibility for 3-D work as well. One person shows, lasting two months. Celebrating Horses of Virginia

The VEAA is hosting a project titled "Celebrating Horses of Virginia". Deadline for having your ideas for your paintings is November 1, 2008. Once we know how many people will be participating in the show, we will contact galleries around the state to exhibit the work. This show will be a traveling show, moving from gallery to gallery. We will be asking for help with people to move work from one gallery to another. If you know of a gallery that might be interesting in hosting the exhibit, let us know. This should be a wonderful show! Celebrate our state's diversity in equines! Don't put it off, let us know now that you will be participating!

Celebrating Horses of Virginia! Coming soon! A traveling show put on by the VEAA. Paintings of Virginia's horses by a large group of VEAA members. The CVH show will be shown in at least one of each VEAA region of the Old Dominion.

Colonial Downs Virginia Derby

Colonial Downs Virginia Derby - July 18, New Kent, VA. Open to VEAA members to exhibit at a special event to benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. Deadline to be involved with this event, June 30.

Workshops

August 23 - 24 "The Horse of a Different Color" - exploring the use of color when painting the horse. Any medium. Mary Shira instructor. Deadline August 15.

September 20 - 21 "Mixed Media Mares" - geldings and stallions too! Explore using watercolor with other mediums such as colored pencil, graphite, pastel and others. Instructor Mary Shira. Deadline September 13.

Membership

Several VEAA membership categories are available to Virginia equine artists, photographers and equine art enthusiasts.

A full membership for $35 a year allows full members to vote, submit work to be exhibited in VEAA sponsored shows, attend VEAA meetings, receive VEAA mailings, and to list a personal artist’s website link on the VEAA website.

An associate membership for $20 a year allows associate members to attend VEAA meetings, receive notification of VEAA exhibitions, and receive VEAA mailings. A student membership for $30 a year – open to students ages 17 and under – allows student members to submit work to be exhibited in VEAA sponsored shows, attend VEAA meetings, receive VEAA mailings and to list a personal artist’s website link on the VEAA website.

Supportive Member : $25. Under this membership category the Supportive Member may attend workshops, general meetings, will receive the newsletter and other information, but is not able to exhibit work in VEAA shows.
